Our UV protection coating is an organic compound. It makes it easier to keep your upholsteries, draperies, and fine fabrics looking their best, protecting them from damage and fading due to exposure to sunlight. Our processes do not impact the weight, look, feel, or color of the fabric.
When exposed to ultra-violet radiation in sunlight, most fabrics will fade over time. To minimize the effects of the sun, we recommend SunGard ® Ultraviolet Protection. Fabrics protected with SunGard ® have an increased lifespan by over 300%. A commonly used method for measuring the effectiveness of a UV treatment is the AATC 183 method which uses the Ultra Violet Protection Factor (UPF). A UPF factor of 25 to 50+ will block 96.0 - 99% of UV radiation and is considered "very good to excellent". In most cases, SunGard ® will be able to increase a fabric's UPF factor to between 25 and 50 in order to block 96.0 - 99% of UV radiation. This will prolong the typical lifespan of the fabric by over 300%.
All fabrics will benefit from our SunGard ® treatment, but in general, the UV protection is more effective with darker colored and more tightly woven fabrics.
Fabric must be re-treated after each cleaning.
Since every fabric is different and experiences differing environmental conditions (direct / indirect sun light, moisture, construction of fabric, smoke, proximity to ocean, type of dyes used, color, etc.) it is difficult to determine colorfastness. In commercial use, each fabric must be tested by a certification laboratory. FabricBack can provide names of certifying labs with whom we have worked in the past. We can also handle treatment as well as certification process on customers request at an additional cost.
We can provide antimicrobial, stain and UV protective treatments to keep your furnishing looking fresh, clean and environmentally safe.
We can provide a scuff resistant coating to natural or synthetic material to enhance the wear characteristic of the base material.
