STAIN PROTECTION & MOISTURE PROOFING FAQs

1
What is stain protection? Will it affect the hand of my fabric?

Our stain protection technologies make it easier to keep your upholsteries, draperies and fine fabrics looking fresh and clean, protecting them from soil, stains and spills. Our processes do not impact the weight, look, feel, or color of the fabric.

2
Do you offer an environmentally-friendly stain protection?

Our GreenShield® Stain Protection is a water soluble fluorocarbon, stain resistant, permanent water repellant treatment. It is formaldehyde free, produces no VOC's, and uses only one-third of the chemicals used in other finishes. GreenShield ® is not merely a surface coating. Inspired by nature, it uses nano-technology to create a surface on your fabric which is similar to that of a plant leaf, which allows water and oil droplets to roll right off.

3
How long can I expect GreenShield ® finish to last?

The GreenShield ® finish is applied to fabric using standard industry processes, and chemically bound to the fibers of the fabric. The finish is expected to last through the life of the fabric

4
Can I clean GreenShield ® treated fabrics?

Fabric treated with GreenShield ® is resistant to water and most solvents. Most stains can be easily cleaned with light brushing and/or water or non-solvent based cleaners. Cleaning code W/S (This code means a combination of dry cleaning solvents and water can be used)

5
How does GreenShield ® compare to the Nanotex ® finish?

The Nanotex ® finish is a fluoropolymer based finish that provides water and stain resistance to a fabric, while the GreenShield finish is an inorganic nanoparticle-based multifunctional finish that provides equivalent water and stain repellency with 7-10 times less fluorochemicals.

6
What is FabGard ® Stain Protection?

FabGard ® Stain Protection is our solvent-based PTFE stain protection primarily used for silks and delicate fabric where water could stain the fabric or change its color.

8
Can I get my fabric protected from stains and fire at the same time?

Yes, we offer UltraGard® Stain & Flame Protection, which will safeguard against accidental spills, while also providing fire code compliance.

9
How about UV protection? Can it be done with stain protection?

When exposed to ultra-violet radiation in sunlight, most fabrics will fade over time. To minimize the effects of the sun, we recommend SunGard® Ultraviolet Protection. This treatment, in combination with our stain protection treatment, will keep your fabric looking fresh for a very long time.

10
What is FabArmor ® moisture proofing?

For the most demanding applications, we offer FabArmor ® , which combines our GreenShield ® stain protection with a barrier film laminated to the back side of the fabric. FabArmor ® is an excellent choice for health care, senior care, hospitals, hotels, and commercial applications where spills may remain on the surface for extended periods of time. It allows fabric to breathe while taking away moisture from the surface. It is especially effective against urine, food, medicines, and blood. It is an effective way to protect your mattresses, sofas and chairs from the harshest conditions.

11
What is FabShield ® clear lamination?

FabShield ® Clear Lamination is an overlay of clear plastic film applied to the face of fabric to protect against frequent stains and spills. Typically, this application is used for tablecloths, seat cushions and wallpaper. Spills should be wiped off with any kitchen cleaner, as prolonged exposure to colored drinks like wine may stain the film.

If the fabric is to be used for furniture upholstery, it must be knit backed (FabBack ® or FabScrim ® ) to stabilize the fabric prior to lamination. Failure to do so may cause separation of the lamination from the fabric with prolonged use.

The polyurethane overlay is odorless, and can be hand-washed with a mild detergent. It does not contain lead, phthalates, BPA or PVC.
